How many wigan fans at bournemouth

Wigan went on to win the cup. Comment posted by 23Mike, at 17 Jan 23Mike. True Shrew What a joy it is to see Wigan, Shrewsbury and Bristol City showing desire and commitment.

We play football, not hoofball. We are one of the smallest teams to ever grace the Prem. This is our 3rd year in the top flight. We will be relegated one day. The season after Eddie leaves.

Eddie Howe is a miracle worker. If you refuse to see that you are truly blind. Things seem to be picking up and you provide some inspiration for my club Sunderland - hope we are playing you again next season in the Championship as Wigan is an excellent away day Good luck against West Ham United - hope you win.

Well played Wigan, great result Comment posted by mudhutter, at 17 Jan mudhutter. Bournemouths Premier League survival is paramount to them so I suppose that is why they made 8 changes, but what people don't realise is Wigan also made 6 changes from Saturdays match, with Powell, Burn, James, Jacobs, Walton and Byrne moving to the bench.

Winner of the cup unless already qualified has a one-off playoff with the side that finishes fourth in the league with the winner qualifiying for the champions league.

Would be a good end of season event. Totally understand Bournemouth prioritising but with the prospect of champions league, teams might rethink. Love a good old fashioned Cup shock. A sobering illustration of Bournemouth's weakness in depth.

Lucky to get a replay in the first place and outplayed again tonight. Wigan through on merit, no argument. Comment posted by Von, at 18 Jan Von. Hardly weakened Wigan wanted it more!

The ultimate knock out quiz. Grabban it was who had the first shot at goal, shooting high over the bar as Wigan allowed a long throw to bounce in their penalty area. Otherwise Wigan, arranged in a nifty formation, dominated possession early on in familiarly meandering fashion as Bournemouth allowed their Premier League visitors to pass among themselves.

The home team set out to play on the break and it was from one rapid thrust that the enterprising left-back, Charlie Daniels, fizzed a dangerous low cross just out of Grabban's reach. For all their caginess, when Wigan scored after 18 minutes it was with a moment of high quality incision. Harry Arter conceded possession 30 yards from goal, the ball was funnelled to Mauro Boselli and the Argentina international spanked an instant right-foot shot into the top corner past the full-stretch dive of Shwan Jalal.

Boselli, who was voted Wigan's worst-ever foreign player last year, might have been excused for not immediately celebrating with the Wigan fans. Most likely he simply could not find them: had made the mile trip from Lancashire to huddle in a narrow corner near Dean Court's breezy open end. Mousset soon had a chance to restore parity but headed straight at Christian Walton before he had a shot blocked by his strike partner, Benik Afobe. Wigan, who came into the game on a game unbeaten run, were competing well and they came close to a second when Nick Powell flashed an effort narrowly wide after Andrew Surman lost possession.

The home fans were growing restless and they had more reason to feel unhappy just before the half-hour mark as their side fell further behind. The former Manchester United midfielder Powell lined up a free-kick on the right corner of the penalty box and his strike took a wicked deflection off Hyndman to loop over Artur Boruc and into the far corner.

Howe responded to the deficit with a couple of half-time changes, replacing Brad Smith, who was playing for the first time since his injury in September, and the debutant Connor Mahoney with Jordon Ibe and Marc Pugh.
